All over in Nagorno-Karabakh? The guests on the France 24 program “The Debate,” including Taline PAPAZIAN, Director of API and lecturer at Sciences Po Aix, Jean DE GLINIASTY, former French Ambassador to Russia, Regis GENTE, France 24 correspondent, and Javid AGHA, journalist at bne IntelliNews, are debating the topic.
The cease-fire concluded yesterday to end the military attacks of Azerbaijan on Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians was brought on by the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has had the upper-hand to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in any way that it sees fit since the end of the 2020 war and did it yesterday. The Russian peacekeeping forces have a mixed role, very confusing to the Armenian population. On the one hand, their presence is still a shield that prevents physical mass extermination of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. On the other hand, they have failed their mandate which consists in 3 points:
▶️Respect of the cease-fire of November 10, 2020
▶️Protection of the civilian population
▶️Protection of civilian infrastructures and properties
In Armenia proper, the role of Russia is altogether different. Russia is waging a hybrid war against Armenia, in which the real stake is Armenia’s state sovereignty and independence. Risk of internal destabilization of the government and the country is high in the current tense and volatile context.
