From 26 to 28 May 2023, the second Media Festival was held in Yerevan, organised by EVN Report. The event brought together local and international media professionals to share their experience and expertise, while highlighting the essential role of journalists in the democratisation of Armenian society. Participants from France included Ariane Chemin, essayist and senior reporter at Le Monde, Gaïdz Minassian, lecturer at Sciences Po and journalist at Le Monde, and Taline Papazian, lecturer at Sciences Po Aix and director of the Armenia Peace Initiative.
Over the course of the three days, the EVN Media Fest panellists covered topics ranging from journalists’ ethics to investigative reporting techniques and safety standards, as well as the fight against disinformation and fact-checking.
An academic panel comprising political scientist Nerses Kopalyan from the University of Nevada, sociologist Georgi Derluguian from the University of Abhu Dabi and Taline Papazian discussed Security and Resilience. Information security is part of today’s global security architecture and the challenges facing Armenia. Armenia is in the midst of a double war, its own with Azerbaijan on the one hand, and on the other, the repercussions of the war in Ukraine and the global geopolitical transformations impacting the entire former Soviet space. Taline Papazian emphasised the changes underway in Armenia’s security system, the importance of citizen mobilisation in these changes and its organic links with democratisation.
